Computational School on Electronic Excitations in Novel Materials Using the Yambo Code

Post by Daniele Varsano » Fri Nov 22, 2019 6:02 pm

We are pleased to announce the school:
Computational School on Electronic Excitations in Novel Materials Using the Yambo Code

The school will take place from January 27 to January 31, 2020 at the International Center for Theoretical Physics (ICTP), Trieste.

The Computational School on Electronic Excitations in Novel Materials Using the Yambo Code will introduce participants to post-DFT simulations, in particular to many-body perturbation theory (MBPT) approaches and will provide training in the calculation of electronic and optical properties of materials.

The program will offer theoretical and technical lectures, as well as dedicated hands-on sessions where the students will learn the use of the Yambo code in a massively parallel environment and how to run post-processing tools for the analysis of the results. The main topics covered range from introductory lessons on MBPT concepts to more advanced topics in materials science. General topics include the diagrammatic approach, self-energy and quasiparticles, the GW approximation, linear response, and the Bethe-Salpeter equation. Strong focus is given on connection with experimental observables (from photoemission to absorption and photoluminescence). Advanced topics will address real-time spectroscopies, time-dependent polarization in terms of the Berry phase, computation of non-linear optical properties.

Participants are required to have a pre-existing background in DFT methods, including experience in running first principles simulations.

Due to the hands-on nature of the School, the number of participants is limited to the capacity of Adriatico Informatics Lab.

For more details and applications please follow this link:

http://indico.ictp.it/event/9018/

Female scientists are encouraged to apply.

Grants:

A limited number of grants are available to support the attendance of selected participants, with priority given to participants from developing countries.

There is no registration fee.

Thanks to the generous contribution of the MaX CoE and Psi-K, accommodation in double room is provided at the ICTP Guest Houses for all participants. Participants are free to upgrade at their own costs the accommodation to a single room accordingly to the ICTP Guest House rates.

Deadline:

For applications needing financial support and/or visa: 30 November 2019

For applications not needing financial support and/or visa: 15 December 2019

The organisers:

Daniele Varsano (CNR-NANO), Maurizia Palummo (University of Rome Tor Vergata), Alejandro Molina-Sánchez (INL), Conor David Hogan (CNR-ISM), Davide Sangalli (CNR-ISM), Ralph Gebauer (ICTP), Local Organiser: Ivan Girotto (ICTP)

Dear Daniele,

Will the lectures and hands-on be recorded and uploaded? It will be very helpful for those who can not attend. Kindly consider the recording.

Dear Haseeb,
yes, we plan to record the theoretical lectures and they will be uploaded in the training section of the MaX website (http://www.max-centre.eu) and in the yambo website.
The hands-on will be also uploaded and people will be able to follow them at their pace.
Best,
Daniele
